This publication discusses prevention of violence in the workplace and is designed as a proactive guide to help reduce and address instances of threatened and actual workplace violence. The publication identifies the legal issues presented by the subject of workplace violence and discusses possible protections available through the criminal justice and civil court systems. While state laws are generally outside the scope, the publication also incorporates some topics of common interest at the state level. Employer guidelines in the form of a sample workplace violence policy and suggested steps to respond to these unfortunate incidents are included.
