Fastcase Partners with Justia to Provide Opinion Summaries For Free

Case Summaries Now Available for State and Federal Court Opinions

Washington, DC (December 20, 2011) – Legal publisher Fastcase has partnered with Justia to provide free access to summaries of state and federal court opinions to all users of the Fastcase online library database. Justia, a legal media and technology company based in Mountain View, Ca., has been drafting concise summaries of breaking court opinions written by licensed attorneys since March 2011.

The summaries are added daily to all opinions from state supreme courts, the U.S. Supreme Court, and federal circuit courts of appeal, and made available for no additional charge to all Fastcase users.

“Case summaries used to be offered only in the most expensive traditional legal research services,” said Ed Walters, CEO of Fastcase. “That ends today. Together with Justia, we’re offering very helpful editorial summaries of new cases – and at no additional cost.”

Justia has offered a number of services surrounding its case summaries, such as a daily feed of summaries by jurisdiction and practice area. Today, they are integrating the summaries in Fastcase’s legal research service as well.

Justia is a leader in democratizing the law and making more of the world’s law available in the public domain. “This is a powerful tool for attorneys, journalists, and others looking to keep up with latest developments in the law,” said Stanley, CEO of Justia CEO. “Our Daily Summaries support our commitment to make online legal information freely available and easy to access.”

In recent months, Fastcase has debuted a suite of Fastcase Cloud Printing applications and has been named to the prestigious EContent 100 list of leading digital publishing and media companies alongside Google, Amazon, Apple, and Facebook. Fastcase was recently ranked #1 on Law Technology News’s first Customer Satisfaction Survey, and won the 2010 American Association of Law Libraries New Product of the Year Award. It was also recognized as the leader in mobile apps by the 2011 ABA Legal Technology Survey.
